Goofing Off Pictures

Sorry I took a break from blogging for a few days! ;) I didn’t really have enough time to get on here and write.

So before the pictures, a quick word about Pegs. She still has bumps, but they’re in different places each morning. :?: We don’t think it’s bottle jaw anymore because the bumps aren’t quite in the right place. Right now there are about 5 bumps along her neck spine, a little off to the side. I’m pretty worried. It could be CLA (or CL), which involves the lymph nodes and is not curable. :( It will infect your whole herd in a little span of time and even infect your land! Yeah, it’s BAD.

There you have it! We were dressed up for a game. :)

Movies, Anyone?

These videos are from Sunday — the day the ducklings hatched. :)

Now an update… Their schedule is quite full. Take a look:

  1. OOH! Look outside, sibling! LOOK! *wide-eyed* Let’s go and check it out! *scampers out, followed by the other six ;) *
  2. *shivering* I’m tired… *crawls back under mama’s wing, after jumping up on mama’s back and sliding down again, of course*
  3. *blinkblink* WHOA! I haven’t seen THAT before! *jumps out of nest and starts running around, sampling the dandelion greens and having beak fights with siblings*
  4. Mama, I wanna get back inside now….

:) Cute, right?

Sprinting Ducklings

The ducklings are now playing around in the coop. ;) They have become little sprinters! We took them for a swim and gave them dandelion leaves.

I know, just a quick update, but I have to go eat dinner!

The Cutie-Pies

THEY ARE ADORABLE! Need I say more? Just take a look at these pictures:

Don’t you agree? Mom tweaked the colors a bit in iPhoto. :D

We’ve been peeping in on them all morning and handled them a bit (well, okay, more than a bit!). :D

Duckling Pictures

The ducklings are all well and good. :) One of them, according to Mikah, was climbing on a hen — a perfect target for any hands itching to hold a little feather bundle. ;) Which is what happened. Mikah also reached under a hen and grabbed one. I don’t know how, since Addy and Seedy aren’t happy about all the attention and peck at anything too close.

I just can’t wait until they actually walk around! :D

Baba’s staying home today to get some tractor stuff done.

THE DUCKLINGS HAVE ARRIVED!!

*runs screaming around the house*

When Naomi and I were doing PM milking, we discovered four or five little ducklings! YES! Several of them are yellow, with a grayish spot on their head and a grayish stripe down their back. One, which is still wet, is black, gray, and white! They are sooo adorable! They even have these little claws! :D :D :D All of them are under Addy except for one teeny tiny duckling, which is under Seedy. That one is yellow.

Picture, anyone?

The itty-bitty one and another bigger yellow duckling.

More pictures tomorrow, I promise!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Starle’s Mites

[flickrslideshow acct_name="suchtreasures" id="72157623806588239" width="300" height="300"]
Starle’s mites seem to be going away. :) We took some of the tea tree oil and water mix over just before lunch, along with garlic and a snack for Annie and Fiddlesticks. They were really happy to see us (or was it the food that got them all excited?). ;) We went down to the neighbors’ pond and guess what? The rough-skinned newts are gone (their breeding season is over), only to be replaced by lots of bullfrogs. We could see them popping up in the middle of the pond, eyes just over the surface of the water. We…erm…sort of threw sticks at them… *ahem* Yeah.

Baba’s doing tractor work again today. :) He’s taking out stumps right above the house. Mikah is helping and having a blast while doing it. Apparently, when we were taking care of the Nigerians, he got to sit on Baba’s lap and operate the backhoe! Well, maybe he had a good time, but you won’t find me in the tractor digging up stumps. Phew. Talk about shaking around, tipping to one side, almost falling over and then jerking to the opposite side! ;)

The weekend is almost over and I don’t want it to end. No ducklings yet. Where are you?

The Nigerians

[flickrslideshow acct_name="suchtreasures" id="72157623803577229" width="300" height="300"]

We went across the street to see the Nigerians yesterday and came back almost crying. Naomi was crying. Starle had mites all over the side of his face. :( :( :(

Well, we ran back to our house, talked to Baba and set to work. Out came the garlic. Peel. Slice. Peel. Slice. Over and over till we had 2 1/2 heads in the bowl. Where’s the cod liver oil? Oh, yes, in the fridge. I put about a teaspoon of that in the bowl. Naomi brought out the molasses and I poured in the oats. Mmmm. A lovely concoction for any mite-infested goat, since mites HATE garlic.

Naomi also found another natural remedy for mites at Fiasco Farms (go here to read the ingredients). Just tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle. We’ll have him fixed up in no time. :)

Now for a treat (Annie and Fiddlesticks can’t be left out, can they???): I put a ton of kelp in a bowl and stuck some alfalfa hay in a feed bag (knew they would come in useful!).

First we gave Starle the garlic/cod liver oil/molasses/oat mix. He gulped it dhttp://prairietide.natagan.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=3132own. We let Annie and Fiddlesticks have some too — it definitely can’t hurt! — but they didn’t want any. Must have been the cod liver oil. Don’t blame ‘em! ;) We left the mix out there just in case.

Next we got out the kelp. Everyone loved that!

And, of course, we saved the alfalfa hay for last. No treat before dinner, right? ;) They looooved that. Armed with a spray bottle, Naomi started disposing of those mites. Starle, with his nose stuck in the hay, didn’t get jumpy until the end of the session. Good boy. :)

No ducklings yet! Day #40!

Baba tore out a couple stumps (maybe only one….?) yesterday with the tractor backhoe. He’ll be working on that more today.

So that was our Saturday. How was yours?

Mikah’s Room Rules

Look what I found on Mikah’s door:

Don’t enter without the express permission of M.D. (Mikah Daniel).

  • Phone me for my permission (on my intercom)
  • Knock 3 times and I will know that you will be phoning me for my permission
  • When gaining my permission, stat your name and your purpose for disturbing me, then you will be admitted or…you won’t
  • If you are admitted, follow the rules listed below:
  1. Always listen to M.D. in his room
  2. Do not yell in M.D.s room
  3. Do not make a mess in M.D.s room
  4. Do not dig through M.D.s stuff, for it is his property, not yours

A Note of Significance from M.D.:

Thank you for reading the above rules, please follow them, and you will be rewarded (let’s leave the reward-placement to me). Don’t ask to be rewarded just because you want a prize, it’s not gonna happen that way.

Signed,
M.D.

P.S. Oh, and by the way, please don’t bother me on little matters (such as, “Mikah’s radio is on too high!”), phone me for those type of little matters, please. Thank you for your time in reading this.

I must say, VERY nice job, Mikah! (And you too, Naomi. ;) )

Snoozin’ Goats

[flickrslideshow acct_name="suchtreasures" id="72157623793420255" width="300" height="300"]

We kids burned a brushpile while Baba moved the fences today! Since he has to pull down cattle panels and it’s a while before he puts them back up, of course the goats got through into the people area. :) But no problems. They were very well behaved and did a great job eating all the grass down (I mean a LOT of grass). After wonderfully full stomachs, they snoozed on the dirt bank.

Piper is losing her 2 front teeth. Yeah, you read correctly! She yawned and I pulled her lower lip down. Instead of finding off-white teeth with brown gunk in the cracks (EW!), there was blood and one front tooth. I’m not sure if the tooth was coming in or coming out, but the other tooth was missing. I was like, “WHAT?! Naomi, c’mere!”

Naomi hurried inside to check on that and it turns out goats are supposed to loose their 2 front teeth when they are around 12 months old. Right on schedule, Piper!

No news on the ducks yet… Day #38… Hurry up!
