We went across the street to see the Nigerians yesterday and came back almost crying.
Naomi was crying. Starle had mites all over the side of his face.
Well, we ran back to our house, talked to Baba and set to work. Out came the garlic. Peel. Slice. Peel. Slice. Over and over till we had 2 1/2 heads in the bowl. Where’s the cod liver oil? Oh, yes, in the fridge. I put about a teaspoon of that in the bowl. Naomi brought out the molasses and I poured in the oats. Mmmm. A lovely concoction for any mite-infested goat, since mites HATE garlic.
Naomi also found another natural remedy for mites at Fiasco Farms (go here to read the ingredients). Just tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle. We’ll have him fixed up in no time.
Now for a treat (Annie and Fiddlesticks can’t be left out, can they???): I put a ton of kelp in a bowl and stuck some alfalfa hay in a feed bag (knew they would come in useful!).
First we gave Starle the garlic/cod liver oil/molasses/oat mix. He gulped it dhttp://prairietide.natagan.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=3132own. We let Annie and Fiddlesticks have some too — it definitely can’t hurt! — but they didn’t want any. Must have been the cod liver oil. Don’t blame ‘em!
We left the mix out there just in case.
Next we got out the kelp. Everyone loved that!
And, of course, we saved the alfalfa hay for last. No treat before dinner, right?
They looooved that. Armed with a spray bottle, Naomi started disposing of those mites. Starle, with his nose stuck in the hay, didn’t get jumpy until the end of the session. Good boy.
No ducklings yet! Day #40!
Baba tore out a couple stumps (maybe only one….?) yesterday with the tractor backhoe. He’ll be working on that more today.
So that was our Saturday. How was yours?
