Piper had kids — a doeling and a buckling! It all started last night, when Piper refused to eat at milking time. Mom stayed outside with her, and Piper went into labor. Unfortunately, Piper kept falling asleep.
Around midnight, Mom decided to go inside and get some rest. When she came outside in the morning, there were two little babies in the birthing stall!
At first Piper didn’t want anything to do with the babies. When they tried to nurse, she bucked and ran away (typical Piper for you). So Mom stepped in. She grabbed Piper, tied her up, velcroed the hobble in place, and let the babies do their thing. They rushed in and started nursing. Piper’s maternal instincts kicked in and within a couple minutes, Mom could let Piper loose and Piper would let her babies nurse.
The little doeling has inherited Pegs’ weird ear! Apparently that trait skipped a generation.
Everything’s wonderful on the home front. After all this sadness with the animals, it sure is great to call Mom and have some good news!
Pegs is due in less than a week (the 19th) and Daisy is due a couple days after that (the 22nd). Buttercup gave 3 1/2 cups at both milkings a couple days ago. She’s at 3 cups per milking right now.

they are so cute!
I with we had enough room for goats.
Oh, me too! Goats are so fun.
Yay! Congratulations!
I love you, Haner, and miss you soooo much. Thank you for making the last three weeks the best ever!
So cute, great pictures! I bet you are excited to get home and see them, and witness the rest of the births!
Michelle
have you got any names picked out for them?
Well, the little boy took a downward turn a couple days ago. We ended up putting him down because of his problems.
I’ll write a post more about him. For the little girl, we’re playing around with names like Joy or Hope. We want something that’s more unique and different than those names, though…
I’m so sorry about that!
Poor little guy
I hope the little girl is alright.
Do you want s virtue name for the doeling ?
The girl is great!
(She’s got a new playmate too…shh…I still haven’t gotten pictures off the camera so I haven’t made a post yet.)
Not exactly. Joy is because she is so bouncy and playful and joyful (not to mention she makes us joyful too!
). Hope is because she is the first kid to survive, so she gave us hope that there would be some kids this year!
Cool!
We named the first goat born here Hope! And for the same reason you like the name.
